Wiyaala, meaning “the doer” in Sissali, is from Funsi in Ghana’s Upper West Region. Her music blends West African folk traditions with contemporary Afro-Pop, creating a unique musical experience.
A vibrant extrovert since childhood, Wiyaala is an award-winning African star, captivating audiences with her unmatched energy and talent. She has performed for dignitaries such as Vice President Kamala Harris and many African Presidents, and at prestigious events including WOMAD UK, The African Games, The Commonwealth Games, SummerStage in NYC, and numerous international festivals.
Wiyaala has released three albums, “Wiyaala” (2014), Sissala Goddess (2018) and “African Polyglot” 2024, the last of which is under consideration for nomination at the Recording Academy’s 2025 Grammy Awards.
Beyond performing, Wiyaala is a symbol of empowerment. She designs her own unique costumes, enhancing her artistic stage presence. In her community, she is a role model, having built a stage, guest house, and restaurant. She hosts concerts for visitors and jam nights for local artists and children, nurturing future talents.
